Fighting with Siblings over Senior Care in Burbank CA!

Jack did not agree with his two sisters when they started talking about hiring senior care for their mother.  She had been living alone for a long time, but his sisters Megan and Tricia noticed that she wasn’t dealing with things the way she used to.  She was forgetting simple things and it seemed as though her clothing was dirty, and her skin was sallow.  In a nutshell, it appeared that she wasn’t eating well, and couldn’t even do the laundry anymore, even though she said she was fine.Senior Care Burbank CA

Jack didn’t live, as close to his mother as either of his sisters, so he hadn’t been to visit with his mother in about a year.  When they started talking about senior care services for their mother, he flat out refused to admit that she might need some level of help.

“Can’t you two just split the time and check on her?  Why does she need senior health care services?  She’s not sick, is she?”

They tried to explain to him that it wasn’t that simple, that she wasn’t able to take care of herself the way that she used to.  Then he asked why they didn’t have her move in with one of them.

“Jack,” Megan had said, “She doesn’t want to leave her house.”

They were trying to make a decision that was best for their mother and had even talked to her about the prospect of having a senior care service provider come into her home, and she agreed that it would be a good idea, but they had often considered these issues to be agreed by the entire family.  They knew how much it would cost, and also knew that they needed Jack to pitch in to help out as well.

Jack’s issues might not have been merely financial in refusing to acknowledge that anything was wrong with their mother.  He hadn’t seen her in over a year, so he wasn’t able to witness what was going wrong, or the issues that she was having at this time. He believed that his sisters often made too much of a deal about small things, and considered they might be doing the same thing now.

The key for them would be to take a moment, to invite their brother out to visit with their mother, or accept that he wouldn’t be convinced about the level of care that would be required.  If that ended up being the case, then they would need to find another way to provide the senior care that their mother required.  For Tricia and Megan, they actually found other options that got their mother senior care for a couple of hours a day, rather than all day, and that was more than enough for the time being.
