Coping with Responsibilities as a Caregiver in Pasadena CA

What are the core responsibilities of a caregiver?  Whether you want to know because you are planning on providing some level of care for a loved one, or you’re planning on taking on this responsibility as a paid job, or you want to know what to expect when you hire a home care provider for your loved one. The more you know about it, the better prepared you’ll be.Caregiver Pasadena CA

There are a number of responsibilities that a caregiver who is providing home care for an elderly patient has.  Each situation is different, so make sure that you understand whether you’re talking about someone who will be stopping in every day to check on your loved one for an hour or two, or someone who will be living with them (a live in care provider).

First and foremost, the main responsibility of a caregiver is to ensure the safety, and health of the elderly individual.  This would mean making sure that he, or she is safe in their home, taking their medication (if any) at the right time, and the prescribed amount, along with assisting them with anything that they can no longer do for themselves.

This could include that the in home care provider helps the elderly patient with getting out of bed, bathing or showering, and other basic care necessities.  The elderly patient may have difficulty getting in and out of the shower or bathtub, or getting on and off the toilet, so the in home care provider would be expected to assist with that, ensuring that the senior is safe when doing these personal activities.

Some other responsibilities for the caregiver would be to assist with cooking meals, some light cleaning, and other basic tasks.  A live in care provider would be more apt to be required to assist with these matters than one who is stopping in for an hour or two a day.

The home care provider might also be expected to ensure that the senior have an opportunity to get to doctor’s appointments, go shopping, and take care of general errands outside the home.  This may mean that the caregiver would need to drive the senior to these destinations.  These factors would need to be discussed in the beginning, before hiring the caregiver,  as well as if  the condition of the elderly individual changes after the in home care provider has been hired.

All in all, these are the main responsibilities of a professional (or family) caregiver
